“CRO is essential because it lets us separate the bullshit from the truth. Data-informed copywriting, design, and communication is the most important movement in the history of modern marketing.” – Oli Gardner (Unbounce)

54 speakers, 40 companies, and 28 events across 10 time zones. Conversion Rate Optimization experts from all over the world came together to conduct webinars, hangouts, Twitter chats, and more. Phew! It’s fair to say the first ever International Conversion Rate Optimization Day was a success.

For those of you who couldn’t keep up with all the events or had to miss some of them, don’t worry. I’ve sifted through everything to gather all the best eCommerce related conversion rate optimization stuff from CRODay. Here they are!

Are you using Google Analytics to drive real business value?

You may already be using Google Analytics (you should if you aren’t) but you probably aren’t using it to its full potential. It’s such a massive and powerful tool that, unless you’re an expert, you just aren’t aware of everything it can do.

Fortunately you don’t have to be an expert because you have guys like John Hossack, from Cardinal Path, to guide you. In his webinar, he demonstrates how some of the lesser-known conversion enhancing tools and techniques inside GA can deliver immediate results and help you gain a competitive advantage.

Specifically, he spoke about these topics –

  • How to find and target user segments that are most likely to convert
  • How to quickly identify prospects on the brink of conversion and quickly remarket to them
  • How to leverage your product data to drive offers and predict purchase behaviors
  • Easy ways to personalize your marketing for optimal conversion

When it comes to using Google Analytics to improve your business, there’s always room to grow and potential to reach further. As a retailer you don’t need to check Google Analytics every minute, but knowing what you can track with it and using that data to improve your conversions is definitely important.

The Power Of Buyer Legends

Creating buyer legends, or customer personas, will help you focus on who your real customer is so that you can create a personalized shopping experience for them, rather than creating a generic eCommerce store and trying to hit everyone. For example, take a look at Samsung and Apple. Both sell laptops, phones, tablets and watches, but they have very different online shopping experiences because they target different buyer legends.

You may not have the resources that Apple and Samsung do, but you can still create your own buyer legends with Bryan Eisenberg’s video. In this short, 30 minute presentation, he explains the 10 key ingredients for generating powerful customer stories that boost conversion.

30 Ways To Use Proof To Increase Your Online Sales

Social proof has long been used as a persuasion tactic in marketing. That’s because it works. It stems from a powerful psychological force that drives us to do what other people are doing. When we see large crowds at a restaurant and we wander over, that’s social proof. When we hear expert talk about a book or product and we purchase it that’s social proof.

You can leverage this on your eCommerce store to persuade customer to buy your products. In this webinar, Bobby Hewitt from Creative Thirst outlines 30 ways you can use proof to increase your online sales. He also talks about specific tests you can run immediately to start seeing some results.

How to Convert More Customers Using Psychology

Speaking of psychology, this Google Hangout with Talia Wolf, Bart Schutz, Angie Schottmuller, Jeremy Smith, and Andre Morys, is a goldmine of information. It’s definitely something you want to watch, and if you sign up you’ll get the recording in your email.

In general, they discuss how to understand your customer and get in their minds to figure out what they want. To create a highly converting eCommerce store, you need to understand what questions your customers are asking. What are their needs? What are they looking for? Is your product the right fit for them? What objections do they have about making the purchase?

Are You Taking Your Conversions Seriously?

The whole purpose of CRO Day was to get more people talking about conversion rate optimization. Even though it’s been around for a while, it’s still a foreign concept for many people, especially in the eCommerce world. Most retailers think the best way to grow sales is to increase traffic.

The truth is, with competition for traffic growing exponentially, and advertising costs going up, the best way is to focus on converting more of that precious traffic you get into customers. Then when those customers fall in love with your products, they’ll tell their friends who in turn will buy from you, and that creates a snowball effect to produce more traffic.

So take some time to look at your store and figure out where it’s leaking sales, and learn how to plug those leaks and increase conversions. And if you need a primer, check out our eBook with tips from some of the experts who participated in CRO Day!
